.replace(/(.)(\1)((\1)+)/g,'$1$1[$3]')
.split("")
.join(" ")
.replace(/\[\ /g,"<span>")
.replace(/\ \]/g,"</span>")
obviously it can be simplified, but for me that's enought ;)
